Saskatchewan's Oldest Community - Preserving Our Heritage Since 1774
kâ-ministiko-minahikoskâhk - The Historic Heart of Saskatchewan
Cumberland House Cree Nation (Swampy Cree: kâ-ministiko-minahikoskâhk, meaning "Spruce Island") is a proud Swampy Cree community located on Pine Island in the Saskatchewan River delta, approximately 449 kilometers from Saskatoon.
Established in 1774, Cumberland House holds the distinction of being Saskatchewan's oldest community and was the first inland trading post established by the Hudson's Bay Company. Our community has served as a vital hub for trade, culture, and Indigenous heritage for over 250 years.
Today, we are home to approximately 1,749 registered members, with 912 living on-reserve and 837 off-reserve. As a member of the Prince Albert Grand Council and signatories to Treaty 5, we continue to balance our rich traditional heritage with modern community development.
Our community consists of five reserves: Cumberland House Cree Nation 20 (our main reserve), Pine Bluff 20A, Pine Bluff 20B, Muskeg River 20C, and Budd's Point 20D, covering a total land area of 21.458 km².
